BOHOL’S First Lady Peregrina Aumentado Thursday inaugurated World Bank funded projects worth P2.3 million, including local counterparts in Talibon town.
Talibon Mayor Juanario Item led local officials and residents in thanking President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Gov. Erico Aumentado, Rep. Roberto Cajes and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in implementing the projects.
The Kapitbisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services: Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (Kalahi-Cidss: KKB) is being implemented in all barangays of only 12 out of 47 Bohol towns.
The inauguration spree started at the Talibon wharf where Rev. Fr. Antonio Tutor Jr., assistant chancellor to Bishop Christian Vicente Noel blessed the pumpboat that is a component of the water system project of the island barangay of Guindacpan.
From the Talibon wharf, Mrs. Aumentado, Assistant Region 7 Director Evelyn Macapobre of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) who is also the Kalahi-Cidss: KKB regional project manager and party proceeded to Guindacpan where Fr. Tutor again blessed the concrete tank.
The islanders had identified the pumpboat and the tank as their “solution” to the lack of water in the island during the dry season especially during El Niño spells.
Water from the mainland will be ferried by the pumpboat to the island where it will be pumped into a cistern. It will be pumped further into the tank where islanders will buy it by the five-gallon container. The cost comes out reasonable than buying water by the container from the mainland.
Mrs. Aumentado however suggested that the islanders install gutters and downspouts on the nearby barangay hall and stage so that rainwater do not simply drain back to the sea but may be stored.
The project coordinator and engineer assured her that they still have savings to implement her suggestion.
